2020 has been a year like no other. The Covid-19 global pandemic has reached far and wide, with damaging consequences that will be felt for many years to come.
At Engage HQ, we were not immune. As the virus hit Australia, our partners also took big hits, with sporting clubs, schools, businesses and many other realms of the community having to significantly change the way they operated this year. For us, this meant that custom apparel orders slowed significantly. We had a choice to make: see Covid-19 as oppressive to our operations, or see the opportunities it offered.
Never ones to baulk at a challenge, we took affirmative action. It was time to support the community in any way we could, and to support our employees in the process.
Being an owner-operated local manufacturing business, we pivoted quickly. Overnight, we developed a very high quality 3-layer face mask that not only met but surpassed local government health guidelines. The Australian Made Campaign posted about our partnership with the Victorian State Emergency Service (see below), stating in this context:
“Australian manufacturers have demonstrated their capacity to adapt and innovate during these challenging times, with many re-tooling to produce much-needed medical supplies and equipment.”

The EA face masks included a world-class technical sports fabric that is water repellent (with water beading on its surface) whilst allowing optimal air flow and breathability. The middle layer is a non-woven fabric acting as a filter, which we took the additional step to bond to the inner layer for stability, durability and comfort. This inner layer of soft microfibre is comfortable on the face whilst wicking moisture away from the mouth to keep the face mask dryer for longer.
The face masks have been extremely popular and we pride ourselves on providing a high quality health solution that we truly believe in. There are no quick, easy solutions at EA HQ. Everything we do is made to work and made to last. The custom branded face masks in particular have been relied upon by so many businesses, with fabulous branding results whilst offering a reliable health option. It has been a privilege to have worked with so many resilient businesses during this crisis.
A key partnership that evolved during this time has been with the Victorian State Emergency Service. Working together, we provided over 10,000 face masks for their incredible volunteers. Made in Melbourne, the face masks were supplied within two weeks during Victoria’s peak face mask production period. Not only were the masks custom printed with SES branding, we tailored the face mask to include Lycra ear loops in their corporate colour for improved aesthetics and added comfort and flexibility of fit. The positive feedback that we have received from the Victorian SES and its volunteers has been incredible and we are honoured to work with this amazing group of community-minded people.
This year has been tough, but together we are tougher.
